Adult Swim’s deranged sitcom parody “Too Many Cooks” took off on YouTube, but part of its charm came from encountering it in its intended context: at 4 a.m., in a block of time innocuously marked “Informercials.” It’s a gag the network pulls regularly, and this week, it premiered the follow-up: “In Search of Miracle Man.”
“Too Many Cooks” aired unannounced last week and starts out as a fake title sequence for an 80’s sitcom, but then it evolves from a simple parody to something a lot stranger and a lot darker. “In Search of Miracle Man” asks viewers to join their cult’s quest to find a mystical being roaming the world performing really cool miracles.
While “In Search of Miracle Man” hasn’t gone nearly as viral as “Too Many Cooks,” you have to give it to Adult Swim for thinking way, wayyyy outside the box. Once you finish watching “Too Many Cooks” you probably won’t be sure what you just saw and if you should laugh, cry or question humanity… but if the theme song isn’t stuck in your head by the end you may want to check your hearing.
