The latest cover for Bloomberg Businessweek is causing some excitement on the internets. The July issue, which covers the discrepancy between hedge-funds’ reputation and performance, has a unique design that has people talking… and snickering.
Regarding if placement of the arrows was intentional and what the image may depict, the publication’s spokesperson, Rachel Nagler, had only this to say: “Could be up to the reader to decide… but we do take great care to be very precise when creating our covers.”
Whether it was intentional or not (Yes, it was.), some designers tend to hide “Easter eggs” or hidden messages in everything they produce… although this one is pretty blatant. From teaser messages and warnings buried in the coding of video games to controversial subtleties hidden in Disney movies and advertising, you should always be on the lookout for what we here in New Orleans call “lagniappe,” a.k.a. a little extra something, from the mind of a designer.
